Bartender Glass 151 – Tokyo Station, 6 O’ Clock Train, Hope – Gaman Girl

This was a tough chapter to translate.  I’m not very clear on the distinction of “Gaman” and “Endure”.  Katagiri actually says “Gaman” in the early parts of the chapter, but I didn’t want to just use that phrase over and over.  I hope I at least captured the spirit of the story.

Drinks of the Day:

Perfect Lady

  • 15 ml Dry Gin
  • 15 ml Peach Schnapps Liqueur
  • 15 ml Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Egg White

Thoughts (Spoiler Alert):

This is the first chapter of a series of connected chapters.  Started off pretty strong.  A good story for the most part and quite funny.  I don’t like Katagiri though.  Not saying she’s poorly developed or anything like that.  I just don’t like the type of person she is.  First of all, she doesn’t seem to be good at her job, and like Sasakura said, she doesn’t really believe she is wrong when she apologizes.  I have some friends like that, and it’s really off-putting when they insist that they are right, to say the least.  What really bugs me is that she considers quitting her job after ONLY THREE DAYS.  I can understand if she’s been doing this for like a month or even a couple of weeks.  But THREE DAYS?  Really, that’s all it takes to make you want to quit your job and go back to your home town?  And she makes it sound like she’s endured hardship for years.  Nope, can’t stand her type.

Hmm? I thought this is the first part of an arc or something… but you give some of your thought already (while u usually bring ur thought after the arc ended). Am I mistaken that there will be a second part in the next chaps?

The next chapter is a continuation, but it’s pretty much it’s own story. Also, the title doesn’t contain “part 1”, “part 2”, etc. like usual so I figured I’ll treat these as individual stories and write my thoughts on each of them.

Can you explain what the joke is about when she sits in the booth instead of at the bar counter?

I’m not 100% sure either but it’s most likely funny because a normal person would sit at the bar in this situation. I think we rarely see anyone NOT at the counter in this manga. And it adds to the humor that she was just doing what Sasakura said. She picked a seat but its not one that Sasakura or Wakui ever expected

    You sure with 15ml Gin?
    That doesn’t seem enough. :/
