Bartender Glass 133 – Black Rose

Drinks of the Day:

Black Rose

  • 45 ml Gold Rum
  • 120 ml Iced Coffee

Thoughts (Spoiler Alert):

Chairman Kurushima is officially dead, and Miwa is left to deal with Hotel Cardinal.  At first, it seems like if she was to retain control of the hotel, then Eden Hall might not have to close, but it seems things are out of her control.  Sasakura already knew this was coming, and provided Miwa much needed support.  We also got to see some interaction between the two, something that we haven’t really seen in a while.

This chapter doesn’t follow the usual routine where someone visits the bar and needs Sasakura to help inspire them or give them a push.  I see this chapter purely as a transition into the next arc.  There’s some morals to explore, but nothing too deep or serious.  It’s quite refreshing to me actually.  There isn’t much humor, but unlike some chapters, I didn’t have to read it 2 or 3 times to understand what’s going on.

Lastly, I couldn’t find actual recipes for this “Black Rose” cocktail anywhere.  The ones I did find all use Bourbon as base, and the recipe is very different.  Not sure if the one in the manga is made up or not.

Thanks. Though, I’m a little confused by the business side of this chapter. Am I right in assuming that since the bank had helped in funding the hotel, they can step into matters like this, and Miwa is just another shareholder? Is this why the bank is getting involved? Were they trying to buy Miwa out?

I’m not too sure either. I think it’s implying that Miwa is a major shareholder who has enough power to counter the bank’s decisions. From the bank’s reaction to Miwa’s statements, it seems they were not being truthful about their plans with the hotel. Perhaps they were planning to sell the hotel once they gained full control of it, and Miwa’s actions would stop them from doing that. But this is all just speculation.
