Bartender Glass 124 – Clown of the North (Part 2)

Hot Whisky Toddy

  • 45 ml Whisky
  • Cloves
  • Sugar
  • 1 Slice of Lemon
  • Hot Water

Thoughts (Spoiler Alert):

A very nice way to go into Shiraishi’s past.  I think the back story fits very well with the personality that he has shown us.  He’s always intense because he strives to earn enough money to support himself and his sister.  He’s a bit narcissistic and snide, probably traits that grew with him when he was a delinquent.  And he’s also a bit cynical, which can be explained by the fact that his father left his family for a woman.  It’s a pretty sad story with few comical moments, but I think it was very well done.  I also really liked how Shiraishi changes throughout the arc.  First, he was angry at his father for leaving him, then he was given some consolation when Kuzuhara understood his pain.  He thought he has forgiven his father, tried to reconnect, but a misunderstanding messed things up.  However, I think ultimately, this shows that Shiraishi hasn’t really forgiven his father at all.  He didn’t truly understand what Kuzuhara meant about “straying from the right path” until he saw the bottles fell over in the taxi cab.  He finally forgave his father, but it was too late.

I don’t get how he understood “straying from the right path” after seeing the bottles fall over…I’ll read it again later, maybe I’ll understand it then.
