Bartender Glass 110 – Apprentice Shiraishi Ken

Drink of the Day:

  • 3 teaspoon of Lemon Juice
  • 150 cc Water
  • Sugar
  • Beer

Thoughts (Spoiler Alert):

Shiraishi makes a consecutive appearance, and he’s already set himself up as a good villain.  He’s acting like a total jerk, so the readers would hate him.  He’s more skilled than Wakui, so he’s something Wakui can strive to overcome.  He has a more intimate relation with the girl that Wakui likes, and there’s always motivation when a girl is involved.  Lastly, despite all the bad that we see from him, he also holds some secret that makes him all that much more interesting.  It’s hard to tell what that secret is right now, but it’s a great setup to allow Shiraishi to become a good guy in the future.  He really has all the elements you’d want in a villain/rival character.

I think the other function that Shiraishi serves is to solidify Wakui’s stance on being a bartender.  If you think about it, he started out as an apprentice not because he wanted to, but because that’s where the company assigned him to work.  Unlike the other bartenders in this manga, he really has no motivation of becoming one.  He’s been working hard as an apprentice, but it’s hard to imagine that a person would continue a career in bartending unless there’s a more personal reason.  And now that Shiraishi insulted Sasakura, it gave Wakui a personal reason to continue on his bartending career, at least for a while longer.

Interesting chapter. It’s nice to see the apprentices have a rivalry b/c Kyouko and Yuri seem more like friends than rivals. (not saying rivals cant be friends, they are just on very good terms)

    Thanks for your hard work!

I just marathoned Bartender. Thanks for your hard work! Looking forward to the next months releases!

Out of curiosity – there is another manga from this author. Did you consider translating it? Not talking about now, translating Bartender will take some, but in some far future~

I think you’re referring to “Sommeliere”? I actually haven’t read that one before, but I’m not a fan of wine, so I probably won’t read or translate that. Sorry!

Interesting… so same author, different artist. I would like to read those, but I haven’t chinese translations of those. I won’t be able to scanlate without that.

Well, sure it would be interesting to read that too.
But first there are 56 chapters for Bartender to come.
      Thank you for this!

Are there any chances of you reupping the download links for older chapters? Or maybe a batch?

Is there a specific chapter that you’r looking for? I started scanlating midway, so I don’t have some of the older chapters.

Well chapters 16-50 download links are from megaupload which was shutdown. So all the download links for those ones are dead. I was just thinking that you could reup those ones to mediafire or something.

Ah I see. I have to dig up those past chapters first.. I probably won’t upload them again until I finish this entire project… sorry, but I’m lazy. lol
