Bartender Chapter 64 – The First “Customer”

Sorry for the long wait, but I finally made my trip back home, and got my hands on Bartender Volume 9! Just in case anyone is wondering, the name of Volume 9 is The First “Customers”.  And, thanks for all the replies 😀

Drink of the Day:

  • 4/5 Red Wine
  • 1/5 Crème de Cassis

Comments (Spoiler Alert):

This is the first chapter of the Hotel Cardinal arc.  I think it sets a good tone, but telling the readers that a hotel bar and a bar on the streets have different customers and different functions.  But I won’t reveal too much about this, since there will be more on this topic in later chapters.

A new character is introduced, Nishizawa Yukihiro, he will technically be Sasakura’s boss for the foreseeable future.  It’s only his first appearance, but he already established himself as an excellent bartender.  We can tell he is also full of pride, and I really want to see stories where he clashes with Sasakura (hint hint?).

I really enjoyed the presentation of this chapter.  The author did not tell the readers that the story took place inside Hotel Cardinal.  It is only revealed after they walked outside the bar, and I’m sure it gave most readers a nice surprise.  Another interesting thing is that the full recipe and name of the drink isn’t explained ’til near the very end of the story, which differs from the usual route, where Sasakura tells the customers the name and recipe right after he makes it.  Even though these are just little things, it is enough to give this particular story an unique feel.

ohh, thanks for this! It’s been a while, but worth the wait! You’re right, this one has a different feel to it. (but then he’s in a very different environment, isn’t he?) I’m curious to see how this new phase will play out. Thanks for bringing it to us!

I just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan of this manga and greatly appreciate your dedication to releasing it. I think it would be really easy to ignore this kind of story compared to most, but the knowledge of alcohol’s history + the very much human problems many deal with day to day that it addresses is incredibly refreshing. Thanks a bunch!

Mindblowing chapter, i really believed it was the real eden hall LOL.Also it was a nice touch to see that instead of moving the counter alone, he “moved” the whole bar..
